"We have to strengthen our relations by implementing our mutual agreements on the environment and by adopting EU legislation," the speaker of the lower house of the Bosnian Parliament, Beriz Belkic, said in his opening remarks.
Croatian Parliament deputy speaker Luka Bebic warned that a project launched by the Bosnian Serb government was affecting the ecosystem of the River Neretva.
"Croatia insists on environmental protection. It's not just the question of the Adriatic Sea and its coast, but of all waterways. (...) The Visoki Horizonti (High Horizons) project upsets the balance of fresh and sea water in the Neretva delta (...) and threatens the production of seashells in Neum Bay," Bebic said.
Bebic recommended that a closing statement at the conference include Croatia's position that the natural balance should not be disturbed. He added that Croatia also insisted that special attention should be paid to the issue of waste management, demanding that oil should be transported across the Adriatic Sea by double-bottomed tankers.
The speaker of the upper house of the Bosnian Parliament, Ilija Filipovic, said that his country was yet to agree on positions regarding environmental protection.
The conference was attended by parliamentary representatives of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, and Slovenia.
