A memorandum on this one-year project has been signed by Croatian deputy police director Jakob Bukvic and UNDP ambassador to Croatia Yuri Afanasiev.
Counties to be involved in the projet will be selected at a later date and the key criterion will be the functioning of the Communal Crime Prevention Council in those areas, Afanasiev said.
Praising the reforms that had been implemented in the past few years, Afanasiev said that, according to surveys, Croatian citizens had trust in the police.
The total crime rate in Croatia is on the decline, but we want it to be even lower, especially among young people, he added.
Bukvic said that the purpose of the project was to improve public security at local level and that for this reason the police wanted to actively involve representatives of local communities in its implementation.
