"I don't want to be the SDP's candidate for prime minister. I want the SDP to win the next elections (later this year) and replace the bad and incompetent government led by the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union)," Antunovic said in a statement published on the SDP's web site, adding she had not nor wanted to be part of media debates on internal SDP issues.
"I refuse that my candidacy for any post in the party or government be used as an instrument in the hands of those who are disuniting the SDP before elections. This is my commitment to the SDP and to Ivica Racan, who is still fighting his last battle and who has entrusted us with giving the SDP and social democracy the leading role in Croatian politics," said Antunovic.
Racan resigned to his post of SDP president earlier this week due to his grave condition.
