Snjezana Vasilj, who heads a team recovering the ship remnants from a depth of eight meters below water surface on the Desilo location in Hutovo Blato, confirmed that the ships were 2,200 years old.
Only eight square meters of the underwater archeological site have been searched so far.
The site is being investigated by archeologists from the Bosnian Croat-Muslim entity and Croatia.
Along with the two ships, the team also discovered 80 amphora caps and a Roman iron spear with a well-preserved handle made of wood. The remnants of a Roman villa and seven graves believed to be dating back to the Bronze or Iron Ages have been found on the same location.
