The government supports the plan drafted by UN special envoy Martti Ahtisaari as it provides for long-term stability in the Balkans, the statement said, adding that difficult decisions did not become easier by postponing and that it was important that the Security Council decide on Kosovo's status in the shortest possible time.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last week that Russia advocated reopening negotiations on Kosovo's status and appointing a new international mediator.
This suggestion has been rejected by representatives of some Albanian political parties who have underlined that Kosovo will not agree to new negotiations.
Kosovo Serb representative Oliver Ivanovic has said the international community might "sacrifice" Ahtisaari as the only way to resume the Kosovo talks and overcome the current deadlock.
