Zagorac"s attorney, Kresimir Krsnik, also failed to show up for the hearing. He, however, asked for a postponement due to his condition.
Spokesman for the court said a news conference would be held later today at which reporters would be briefed about investigating judge Erna Drazanic's next decision concerning Zagorec, who is suspected of abuse of office. The judge is expected to decide whether detention should be set for Zagorec and an investigation launched.
Zagorec is suspected of embezzling the $5 million worth diamonds while acting as assistant minister of defense, in charge of buying weapons and military equipment.
The State Prosecution had earlier requested Zagorac"s detainment, after which the police issued a warrant for his arrest.
