Speaking to the press after meetings with members of Kosovo's negotiating team and international officials in the province, Scheffer said that NATO was ready to protect stability in Kosovo and that its 16,000-strong force would continue to guarantee security to all residents after the status of the province was defined.
He condemned riots of last Saturday in which two Albanians were killed and several dozens were wounded, and stressed that nobody in Kosovo could achieve anything by using force.
The NATO official also guaranteed Kosovo's territorial integrity, adding that people who believed that division of Kosovo was the solution were wrong and that Kosovo would never be divided. He added that he would convey this position to Kosovo Serbs as well.
