The Interior Ministry has no information that the Red Brigades intended to purchase weapons on Croatia's territory, and allegations of this kind will be investigated only if Italy sends an official request, a spokeswoman for the Ministry, Emina Lusic, told Hina on Thursday in response to Italian Interior Minister Giuliano Amato's claim that the Red Brigades had planned to obtain arms in Croatia.
Amato made the statement on contacts between Red Brigades members and organised crime rings in Croatia in the Italian parliament on Wednesday when presenting the results of a clampdown on terrorist groups and apprehension of 15 Red Brigades members.
Amato said the new Red Brigades promoted the theory of a long war against the state and that long-standing Red Brigades members had helped establish the new brigades.
