The head of the European Commission Delegation's department in charge of the project, Constantino Longares Barrio, said that corruption in public procurement was also present in the EU, but that this was not an excuse for not dealing with the problem in Croatia.
The project contributes to the greater transparency of the Croatian system of public procurement, he said.
The project has helped Croatia adapt to EU standards, complete a bill on public procurement, standardise public procurement procedure forms, introduce a new web site and a bulletin of the Office for Public Procurement, and train staff at the Public Procurement Office.
All project plans have been implemented and have significantly contributed to consolidating the public procurement system, it was said.
The project, financed by the EU within the CARDS 2002 program with 860,000 euros, was carried out by German and Slovene partners and the Croatian government Office for Public Procurement.
