ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament resumed its 24th
session on Thursday morning with a discussion on a draft law on consumer
protection designed to raise the level of consumer protection and adjust
national standards in this field to European Union guidelines. The
draft law envisages the proscription of unfair business practices and
aggressive business practices and stipulates rules for making product labels
clearer and easy to read.
Powers of market inspectors are to be increased.
During the debate, almost all parliamentary clubs objected that the
text of the new law was incomprehensible to Croatian consumers.
A deputy of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union said, however, that
"the complexity of the text cannot be an excuse for not understanding the
law".
