ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - An international conference aimed at establishing the truth about the war, scheduled to be held in Zagreb on February 8 and 9, will host numerous politicians and officials from the judiciary and the human
rights sector, including Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and UN war crimes tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte, said the Centre for Facing the Past Documenta, one of the organisers of the event.
ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - An international conference aimed at
establishing the truth about the war, scheduled to be held in Zagreb on
February 8 and 9, will host numerous politicians and officials from the
judiciary and the human rights sector, including Croatian President Stjepan
Mesic and UN war crimes tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte, said the
Centre for Facing the Past Documenta, one of the organisers of the event. This is the second regional forum on transition justice. The first one
was held Sarajevo in May 2006. The event is aimed at putting in a context the
topics concerning war events and advancing dialogue on efficient mechanism so
as to achieve a high level of social sensibility for a systematic and
responsible dealing with the recent history of post-Yugoslav countries.
Along with del Ponte, the conference will also be attended by ICTY
president Fausto Pocar and the tribunal's Registrar Hans Holthuis.
The event in Zagreb is jointly organised by the Zagreb-based Document
centre, the Humanitarian Law Fund from Belgrade and the Research and
Documentation Centre from Sarajevo.
