The President's Office said that it was a regular meeting between the president and an ambassador, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said that the meeting was arranged at the ambassador's request.
The meeting took place following a drug scandal involving the husband of a staff member of the Croatian Consulate in Los Angeles.
Bernard Barisic was arrested in January 2005 while purchasing narcotics, and the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration was informed of the incident only a year later.
According to Croatian media reports, Ambassador Jurica was outside the United States at the time of the incident.
Last month the Ministry appointed a commission to look into the case and launched proceedings before the Civil Servants Tribunal against former State Secretary Gordan Bakota and former Consul to Los Angeles Sanja Bujas-Juraga.
