ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - The primary shool teachers' trade union
is prepared to mobilise its membership for the struggle for a fairer Croatia
and for primary school employees no longer being underpaid, the trade union's
leader, Zeljko Stipic, told a news conference in Zagreb on Wednesday. Stipic said the government is trying to reduce public spending to the
detriment of employees in the public sector.
Workers in the primary schooling system have so far earned salaries
below the average monthly wage in Croatia. Will a first-time teacher with his
or her salary of HRK 4,000 and the demanded reduction of HRK 250 save the state
budget? We all know that they will not, Stipic said.
