ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - Croatia accepts the latest proposal from European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn for the settlement of its border dispute with Slovenia, the Croatian state leadership decided on Tuesday after consultations with representatives of parliamentary parties.

President Stjepan Mesic, Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader told reporters that the state leadership and the parties were agreed that Rehn's proposal should be accepted, but that details of the proposal could not be made public yet.

They said that they would send their response to Rehn in the next 24 hours, after additional consultations with parliamentary parties on the procedure and model for the presentation of Croatia's position to Rehn.

Asked if the acceptance of Rehn's proposal meant that Croatia did not have any objections to it, Sanader said that Croatia believed that some of the suggestions in the proposal could be different, but that he could not speak about it yet.

Under Rehn's proposal, the border at sea and on land between Croatia and Slovenia would be set by a five-member arbitration tribunal in line with international law.

Sanader voiced satisfaction with what he called a high level of agreement on endorsing Rehn's proposal.

He was particularly pleased that international law experts, such as Davorin Rudolf and Budislav Vukas, who also attended today's meeting, embraced Rehn's proposal.

Mesic said that Rehn's latest proposal was actually "a take it or leave it" proposal, and that Croatia had opted for the "take it" part.

By accepting Rehn's proposal, Croatia has agreed to an arbitration tribunal provided that the court applies international law when tackling the border issue, Mesic added.

Asked to comment on speculations that Slovenia would refuse Rehn's proposal, Sanader said that he did not know what Slovenia would do and he therefore could not comment on its stand.
