Tuerk issued a statement on Thursday expressing his surprise at the decision by the Croatian PM Sanader to withdraw from active politics.
Tuerk said the news was Croatia's internal matter adding that he would like to see Croatia as a successful and stable country during the current global economic crisis.
"Slovenia and Croatia are two neighbouring countries being connected with many things, and in the current crisis time they have even stronger reasons to strengthen their cooperation," reads Tuerk's statement issued after Croatia's PM Sanader on Wednesday announced his withdrawal from politics.
The Slovenian head of state added that there was a chance for the two countries to make additional efforts to demarcate their border.
He called for solving the border issue on the basis of the mutual respect, respect for their interests and in accordance with the international law.
The two countries should study experiences so far gained in this segment, and step up their efforts to find a solution which would be "mutually useful, fair and lasting".
In reference to Sanader's resignation, Foreign Minister Zbogar said in his address to the Slovenian parliament's foreign affairs committee on Thursday that it was not appropriate to comment on the situation in a neighboring country, but he expressed hope that Slovenia and Croatia would resume their negotiations on the border issue.
Zbogar said Slovenia was ready for the resumption of the talks, adding that hen hoped that the new government in Croatia would come back to the negotiating table.
