"The government and the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) repudiate his statement. It is a reinterpretation and most definitely an act of abuse of President Josipovic's speech," Kosor said in response to reporters' questions after laying a wreath at President Franjo Tudjman's grave at the Mirogoj cemetery on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the first multiparty elections in Croatia.
During an Adriatic-Ionian Initiative meeting in Ancona on Wednesday, Jeremic misinterpreted Josipovic's speech as the latter's expression of deep regret about "the policy led by Tudjman having caused suffering and divisions in Bosnia-Herzegovina".
Kosor said that she had not talked with Josipovic about Jeremic's statement.
She stressed that the Homeland Defence War was a just war of independence and that Croatia did not lay claim to other countries' territory.
Kosor said that Croatia was oriented towards the future and that it supported its neighbours in their Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic joined in the condemnation of Jeremic's abuse of Josipovic's speech.
During a visit to the northwestern town of Zabok on Thursday, Mesic called on Serbia to admit to having been the aggressor in the region.
Serbia must undergo a catharsis like the Germans after World War II, Mesic said.
Asked by reporters whether Jeremic's statement in Ancona would strain Serbia-Croatia relations, he responded that the relations "are already quite strained".
Mesic said that Jeremic should know that it was Milosevic who already in his speech in Kosovo Polje in 1989 "outlined his plans about conflicts in the area and a greater ethnically cleansed Serbia".
