ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - The World Food Programme has discontinued its
work in Somalia due to an increase in attacks on humanitarian
personnel and the unacceptable requests of the rebel Al Shabab
militia, which is linked to Al-Qaeda and controls that region. The WPF
will remain active in the rest of Somalia, notably in Mogadishu. About
three-fourths of the 3.76 million population who need relief live in
central and south Somalia.
