The solemn mass was said by Kotor Bishop Mladen Vukšić who recalled in his sermon that Pope Francis proclaimed 2025 as a jubilee year with the main message "Spes non confundit" ("Hope does not disappoint").
Other ceremonies were held in front of the main city gates and in the streets of this Adriatic town.
In attendance at the mass and ceremonies was Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Davor Božinović.
"This is important, especially on this day, to gather together. We can see that many pilgrims have come from Croatia, all the brotherhoods of the Bokeljska Mornarica Navy 809 from Croatia, and many locals," Božinović said.
"This is a day that carries its own symbolism. Despite all the historical challenges, we celebrate the fact that we have preserved our language, faith, customs, and identity," said Božinović whose ancestors lived in Boka Kotorska Bay.
He emphasised that the Croatian government led by PM Andrej Plenković, in its third term, cooperates with Croats outside of Croatia, particularly with Croats from Boka Kotorska on a permanent basis, maintaining constant communication and being aware of all their problems.
"Things are improving, and they will improve even more because we are here to help Croats, and we will not give up. Croatia is always here to support and protect the cultural and national identity," Božinović told Hina.
The "Tripundanske svečanosti ", festivities in honour of Saint Tryphon will conclude on 16 February with the lowering of the saint's flag from the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon.
The Festivity of Saint Tryphon and the Kolo (chain dance) of Saint Tryphon, traditions of Croats from Montenegro's Bay of Kotor, were inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022.
