The disaster relief nonprofit World Central Kitchen, led by celebrity chef Jose Andres, opened a Washington DC feeding site 16 January to try to help some of the 800,000 federal workers that are either working without pay or have been furloughed. Free hot meals and to-go meals will be provided everyday, including weekends. The shutdown began 22 December 2018 and is now the longest in US history with no clear end in sight. EPA/MICHAEL REYNOLDS
