ROMANIA DROUGHT
epa11547673 Dried sunflower plants are seen in a crop affected by drought on a hot summer day on a field near Branesti village, Romania, 13 August 2024. The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture requested on 07 August compensation from the European Commission for farmers affected by the drought. There are approximately two million cultivated hectares that are severely affected by the drought, especially sunflowers and corn, with losses estimated at 200-230 euros per hectare, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR). The Romanian National Meteorological Administration on 13 August issued an Excessive Heat Warning (Orange Code), announcing that maximum temperatures will reach 39-40 degrees in south and southwestern regions.
