CZECH REPUBLIC PHOTO SET COAL MINE
epa11658535 Coal miners leave after working a shift underground at CSM coal mine, owned by OKD AS company, in Stonava, Czech Republic, 14 October 2024. Mining company OKD is the only producer of black coal in the Czech Republic. Currently, coal is mined at OKD's only active mine, the CSM Mine, with the North and South locations. The start of construction of the mine began on 01 September 1958, with exploration in the mining field months ahead. Due to long-term profitability issues, the company stopped mining most of its mines in recent years, and it expects to cease mining there in late 2025/early 2026, after which it will carry out technical decommissioning of the mine for approximately three years and is also preparing for possible further ventures in the production of coal blends and green energy.
