A Turkish parliamentary commission approved 7 articles of the draft law consisting of 17 articles aimed at managing the country's large stray dog population on 22 July. According to this, article 5, which includes the euthanasia of animals, was accepted by removing the word 'Euthanasia' on the bill. However, it is stated that animals can be euthanized with the approval of a veterinarian in cases where they suffer pain and suffering or carry an infectious disease that cannot be cured. Still, animal advocates are concerned that the bill could lead to widespread culling of the animals. EPA/ERDEM SAHIN
