HAITI CRISIS
epa10370670 A man looks for bones on sale at the General Cemetery in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 10 December 2022 (Issued 17 December 2022). Open graves, scattered bones, animals that roam day and night, and prostitution, all are present at the Great Cemetery of Port-au-Prince due to deterioration and abandonment in the midst of the crisis that is shaking Haiti. For almost three centuries this cemetery has not only been the burial place for thousands of Haitians, including some illustrious ones, but in its approximately 12 hectares there is also a lot of heritage where voodoo rituals are carried out. According to the Great Cemetery director, the crisis in Haiti is affecting the cemetery which doesn't receive more than 40 burials a month. Not only that, but also the number of security guards is insufficient to protect the cemetery's large space which lead to theft by tomb invaders. EPA/Johnson Sabin
