CHILE RED TIDE AFTERMATH
epa05309282 A view of dead sardines washed ashore at the cove of La Barra, in the region of Araucania, some 680km south of Santiago de Chile, southern Chile, 15 May 2016. At least six towns in the archipelago of Chiloe stopped their protests after an agreement with the government following two weeks of protests derived from the red tide affecting much of the coastal regions in the area. The red tide is caused by the excessive proliferation of microalgae with high concentrations of toxins, which can cause illness in humans and animals. EPA/ANDRES PEREZ
