PAKISTAN EYE INJECTION BANNED
epa10882715 A pharmacist sorts medicines at a pharmacy in Multan, Pakistan, 25 September 2023. The Punjab government has banned the sale and usage of a locally manufactured injection for two weeks, following reports that it has caused loss of vision in several patients. A committee has been formed to investigate the issue, and the government has promised free treatment to the affected patients as well as strict action against those responsible. The injection has been recalled from the market and a case has been registered against the suppliers. Currently, 68 patients have come forward due to these sub-standard injections, and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has instructed hospitals and pharmacies not to use or sell such injections. Measures are being taken to prevent further cases of vision impairment, including calling back patients for checkups and stopping the supply of sub-standard injections. EPA/FAISAL KAREEM
