The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a vast infrastructure development project that aims to connect the Gwadar Port in southwestern Pakistan to China's northwestern region of Xinjiang, through a network of highways, railways, and pipelines. It is a flagship project of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and has been hailed as a game-changer for both China and Pakistan. The corridor holds immense strategic importance for China, as it provides an alternate route for its trade with the Middle East and Africa, bypassing the Strait of Malacca. For Pakistan, CPEC offers an opportunity to address its economic challenges, boost industrialization, create jobs, and improve infrastructure. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in the development of CPEC projects in Pakistan. Major milestones include the completion of the Gwadar Port, construction of highways and railways, establishment of special economic zones, and investments in energy and telecommunications sectors.
