The average price of petrol in Russia is among the lowest in Europe, yet the country ranks 20th in terms of how much petrol its citizens can buy with an average monthly salary.
In terms of purchasing power, Luxembourg ranks first and Ukraine last, the study found. It covered 33 European countries and Kazakhstan, looking at prices of 95-octane petrol.
Kazakhstan has the cheapest petrol, at HRK 3.05 per litre, followed by Russia (HRK 4.4), Belarus (HRK 4.6) and Ukraine (HRK 7.1). On the other hand, this grade of petrol is the most expensive in the Netherlands (HRK 11.6 per litre), followed by Norway, Denmark, Italy and Greece where it costs above HRK 11.
In Croatia, the average price of 95-octane petrol is HRK 9.3 per litre. According to the latest figures from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, the average net monthly salary in Croatia is HRK 6,277, which can buy 674 litres of petrol.
By comparison, the average monthly salary in Luxembourg can buy over 3,000 litres, while the average monthly salary in Ukraine can buy 247 litres.
