ZAGREB, Feb 1 (Hina) - A countdown timer was set up on a 5-metre-high sculpture in Jadranski Trg Square in Rijeka on Friday to count down days before the start of the project Rijeka - the European Capital of Culture 2020, and the clock was officially unveiled by local pupils.
The countdown timer also plays the European Union's anthem "Ode to Joy".
The timer counts down the remaining days before Rijeka and the Irish port of Galway become the European capitals of culture in 2020, succeeding Italy's Matera and Bulgaria's Plovdiv.
The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the EU for a period of one calendar year during which it organises a series of cultural events with a strong pan-European dimension.
