ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - Gross premium written by insurance companies in Croatia in 2018 amounted to HRK 9.86 billion (EUR 1.33 billion), which was 8.8% more than in 2017 and a new record high after 2008 when gross premium amounted to HRK 9.67 billion, according to figures provided by the Croatian Insurance Bureau (HUO) at a news conference in Zagreb on Wednesday.

In the non-life insurance segment, gross premium charged increased by 9.9% to HRK 6.72 billion in 2018.

The life insurance segment rose by 6.6% to HRK 3.13 billion.

A total of 18 insurers operating in Croatia paid claims in the amount of 5.5 billion kuna, up by 8.6% in comparison to 2017.

The number of non-life policies at the end of 2018 was 8.9 million and 1.54 million were life policies.

The most prevailing type of insurance in the non-life insurance segment was motor-vehicle liability insurance.
