The University Hospital Centre (KBC) Zagreb performed transplantation of eight kidneys and two hearts, whereas the clinical hospital Merkur conducted transplantation of four livers and three kidneys, and two heart transplants were performed at the clinical hospital Dubrava, according to information provided by Health Minister Milan Kujundzic at the Dubrava hospital on Monday.
Some of the organs were donated from Germany and Belgium with the assistance of Eurotransplant, a non-profit organisation that facilitates patient-oriented allocation and cross-border exchange of deceased donor organs. Eurotransplant's members are Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia.
The KBC Zagreb hospital registered a total of 24 heart transplants in 2018.
The Merkur hospital had a rise of 10% in transplant operations in 2018 compared to 2017.
