Addressing the contract-signing ceremony in Zagreb, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that in 2019 Croatia would set aside HRK 1.7 billion kuna plus 300 million which would be ensured from the European funds for the needs of persons with disabilities.
The chairman of the federation of associations of disabled persons (SOIH), Zorislav Bobus, said that the funds for assistants would make the lives of disabled persons easier.
In September, there were over 500,000 people registered in the Croatian national registry of persons with disabilities, Bobus said, commending PM Plenkovic and Family Affairs Minister Nada Murganic for raising the standards of disabled people.
"The quality of life and social inclusion of disabled persons depends much on the availability and organisation of services," said Plenkovic.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
