The campaign was organised by the federation of "Our Children" associations in partnership with the Croatian Society for Preventive and Social Pediatrics and under the sponsorship of UNICEF Croatia.
To qualify for this status, towns and municipalities must meet 123 criteria covering all areas of children's lives, rights and interests, and must also receive a positive opinion from children and citizens that they deserve such a prestigious title, the chair of the campaign coordinating committee, Aida Salihagic Kadic, said at a ceremony in Zagreb.
"We carry out this campaign together with children. Through their activities in children's forums and daycare centres, they are very actively involved in the life of their town or municipality and they recommend what is important to them to their mayors," she added.
The purpose of the campaign is to expedite the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at local levels.
"Our work will not cease until every town and municipality in Croatia ensures support and conditions for children's development, safety and happiness," said Marijana Salinovic of UNICEF Croatia.
This year's recipients Krizevci, Mursko Sredisce and Omis have joined 68 towns and municipalities that have the status of children-friendly town or municipality.
Krizevci is located 70 kilometres northeast of Zagreb, Mursko Sredisce lies near the Hungarian border, about 120 north of Zagreb, while Omis is situated 30 km east of the southern coastal city of Split.
