The Croatian islands as well as Sifnos, Greece and the Aran Islands, Ireland, have been chosen among over 2,000 islands within a call for the expression of interest by European islands in professional and technical support for planning, preparation and/or upgrade of energy transition, according to a press release issued jointly by the European Commission and the secretariat for islands.
Picula expressed satisfaction with the decision to choose the archipelago of Cres and Losinj for the implementation of the energy transition pilot project.
In the next 18 months, the European Union will support 26 island communities across Europe in the development of plans for energy transition and in the realisation of individual projects.
The secretariat for the islands was set up within the Clean Energy for EU Islands Initiative, and it is the first working body within the Commission with the specific task to exclusively deal with islands.
