The Academy for Forestry was founded on 20 October 1898. This raised forestry education in Croatia to an academic level. At the same time, the Faculty of Forestry is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Wood Technology Department.
Faculty of Forestry Dean Tibor Pentek underscored the importance of forestry and the faculty for the economy. "We in particular take pride with the fact that graduate forestry engineers today manage 47% of land area in Croatia. The Wood Technology Department at our faculty educates experts in the wood industry and furniture manufacturing, while forestry and wood technology jointly account for 4.5% of Gross Domestic Product and employ 45,000 people," Pentek said.
To date 7,500 engineers have graduated or obtained masters' degrees in forestry and wood technology at the faculty, he said.
