The union leader, Sanja Sprem called on the union's 25,000 members to express their opinions and experiences in the survey and in that way, make an impact on the education system.
The survey of this kind is being implemented for the first time in Croatia and is as part of the project called "Strengthening Bipartite Social Dialogue in the Elementary Education Sector," which will run for 18 months and will be funded with HRK 1.2 million from the European Social Fund, said, an expert for EU funds.
The project has been evaluated by the Labour Ministry as the best quality project. It also involves setting up a network of mediators between all 850 elementary schools in Croatia as well as introducing a series of education activities in 10 counties, strengthening international cooperation between unions in Slovenia, Finland and Sweden as well as organising seven roundtable panel discussions.
Commenting on announcements by Education Minister Blazenka Divjak on changes to the 23-year-old rules on promotions and awards in elementary and secondary schools, Sprem said there has been only one debate on that topic and that preparations so far do not seem that promising, adding that she hopes that teachers will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on the new rules and that their opinions will be taken into account.
