By Saturday, when the festival ends, film lovers will be able to enjoy a hundred independent films, as well as exhibitions, performances, concerts and DJ sets.
The focus of this year's festival is on independent productions, with themes largely reflecting the spirit of the times and addressing current global problems.
The programme features films from large cinematographies such as the US, France and China, as well those from smaller countries such as Montenegro, Switzerland, Columbia, Denmark, and Poland. Also on show will be several exciting Croatian premieres.
Swedish director Ruben Ostlund is this year's guest of honour and recipient of the festival's Maverick award. Also attending will be filmmakers, musicians and visual artists from Berlin, this year's partner city.
This year's festival is dedicated to two detained filmmakers, Ukrainian Oleg Sentsov and Russian Kirill Serebrennikov. The latter's film Summer, about an emerging rock scene in the Soviet Union, is included in the programme.
