Reconstructed Bishop's Palace in Dubrovnik inaugurated

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) -The 32-million-kuna renovated Bishop's Palace in Dubrovnik was formally inaugurated at a ceremony on Tuesday, and local Catholic Bishop Mate Uzinic will move into the palace on 21 September.

Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia, Giuseppe Pinto, who consecrated the building, said that the Catholic Church had been reconstructing and renovating works of art and buildings that are still recognisable today.

Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic said at the ceremony that the Dubrovnik Bishop's Palace gave an additional value to the city's centre.

Ivo Felner, the chairman of the Caboga Stiftung foundation, that donated HRK 6.7 million kuna for the last stage of the refurbishment, said that "this was a small drop in a dried lake, but we hope that we will  give an impetus to new ideas."

Until 2016 the reconstruction of the 2,000 square metres four-storey building was financed by local authorities with a total amount of 25 million kuna. The Catholic Church has covered about 15% of the costs, and has financed the project since 2016.
