The director of that classical music festival, Davor Bobic, said that this year's event would be attended by some of Japan's best ensembles and musicians.
The festival starts on September 21 with a concert to be staged by the Croatian Baroque Ensemble, members of the Orchestra Libera Classica, the La Fonteverde vocal ensemble, and the Chorus Angelicus choir, with Heidemi Suzuki as the conductor. The concert programme consists of works by Telemann and Vivaldi.
On September 22, Trakoscan Castle will host a baroque music concert by Heidemi Suzuki and the Orchestra Libera Classica Soloists. The La Fonteverde vocal ensemble and the Orchestra Libera Classica Soloists will perform on the same day at Varazdin's Croatian National Theatre.
Concerts will also be staged at the town's Franciscan church and the Church of St Nicholas.
Apart from musicians from Japan, musicians from Austria, Germany, Italy and Israel will also attend the Varazdin Baroque Evenings, festival director Bobic said.
Japanese Ambassador Keiji Takiguchi expressed satisfaction that on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations his country would be the partner country of the 48th Varazdin Baroque Evenings.
The Varazdin Baroque Evenings is the most important music event in central Croatia. Founded in 1971, the early classical music festival is one of the most reputable events of the kind in the world. It is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic and was recognised as an event of national importance by the Culture Ministry 20 years ago.
Previous partner countries of the Varazdin Baroque Evenings are Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Israel, Austria, Russia, Italy, France, Spain and Hungary.
