According to a survey taken in spring 2018, which included more than 800 respondents, Croatia was the number one tourist destination for Austrians. Italy ranks 2nd, while Spain was the third choice. A total of 18% of Austrians prefer to holiday in their own country.
So far in 2018, a total of 440,000 Austrians have visited Croatia and generated 1.8 million overnight stays, which is 6% more than in the same period last year, said HTZ director Kristjan Stanicic.
The most popular destinations in Croatia for Austrians are Rovinj, Porec, Umag, Medulin and Mali Losinj.
A total of 42% of Austrian tourists prefer to travel by car, while 41% prefer to travel by plane. There are a total of 31 regular and charter flight services connecting Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Zadar with Vienna.
