Roadside assistance set for foreign drivers launched

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, June 17 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Auto Club (HAK) and the Odina Asistencija company last Tuesday launched a jointly developed set of services called "Safely through Croatia", which offers foreign drivers in Croatia on vacation or business roadside assistance and mobility guarantee in case of a breakdown, as well as assistance in claiming compensation in case of an accident.

HAK provides roadside assistance such as the removal of the breakdown and/or car towing in case of a major failure that cannot be fixed on the spot, towing in case of a minor or major road accident, and the provision of a substitute vehicle for the continuation of the journey or of accommodation, HAK director Dario Mustac said.

He explained that the assistance set covered a period of one year and covered the entire territory of Croatia, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The set will be available for purchase as of next week.

Around 34,000 road accidents occur in Croatia every year and one in ten involves a foreign vehicle, Mustac said, noting that around 17.5 million tourists entered Croatia last year, 90% of them by road.

One in ten road accidents involves a vehicle with foreign registration plates, which means that around 5,000 visitors experience an accident during their stay in Croatia. Apart from accidents, car failures and damage caused by third persons happen as well.

In case of a minor road accident, Odina Asistencija provides the service of a car check by a licenced appraiser, registration and photographing of the damage, and the calculation of the cost of repair, advice in claiming compensation for the damage, representation in claiming compensation, and the translation of documentation necessary to claim compensation.

The price of the set is HRK 375 or EUR 50 and it covers services that cost around HRK 7,500 or EUR 1,000 in total, if paid individually at their regular prices, Odina Asistencija director and owner Danijela Pavic said.

She stressed that the company sought to claim compensation for material and non-material damage for its clients out of court.
