"Zones of Contact: Architecture of Graz and Zagreb" exhibition opens at MSU

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - The exhibition "Zones of Contact: The Architecture of Graz and Zagreb", showing similarities between modern architecture that has shaped Graz and the modernist architecture of Zagreb and influences of international urbanism in both cities, opened at the Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) on Tuesday.

A result of cooperation between Graz's Kunsthaus art museum and the MSU, the exhibition puts emphasis on unusually bold and innovative works of Styrian architects that have attracted the attention of international architects and become an important part of the global architectural heritage.

MSU director Snjezana Pintaric, Kunstaus director Barbara Steiner and the head of the Austrian Cultural Forum, Susanne Ranetzky, said that the exhibition would contribute to the understanding of similarities and differences in the two cities' architectures and urban designs.

Also on Tuesday, an exhibition entitled "CUT/REZ – Examples of collage in artistic practices in Central and Eastern Europe from the Avant-garde until today", opened at the MSU.

The exhibition, featuring some 200 works by 64 authors, "explores relations of collage in contemporary artistic practices following a historical trajectory of the avant-garde art that saw the emergence of experiments in collage/montage as radical artistic language, in relation to economic, ideological and institutional framework," reads an announcement of the exhibition on the MSU website.

"The exhibition brings into light collage as a marginal and fragile practice, opening a field for critical positions and formal experiments that continue to inspire the production of contemporary art today. It brings together different generations of international artists, artists from Central and Eastern Europe, ranging from the historical avant-gardes, neo avant-garde, conceptual art, contemporary artists and emerging artists," the MSU says.
