The ceremony at which the hospital was awarded the new title heard that the hospital had to meet 14 criteria under new, updated and stricter terms of the campaign.
The hospital's director, Goran Roic, said that 12,000 children were hospitalised and several hundred thousand examined, diagnosed and treated at that hospital.
"We want to make a child's stay in the hospital more humane and make sure the child is cared for in line with European and world medical standards, in line with the open-hospital principle. We want child patients to feel as well as possible and to attend the necessary activities - school, kindergarten, and other activities that enhance the quality of medical care," said Roic.
One of the organisers of the campaign to make hospitals more child friendly, Neda Stribor, said that some of the key criteria that had to be met were the possibility of parents to stay with their child in hospital throughout the day, their accommodation, school, kindergarten and play activities, volunteer work, and other elements that reduce a child's stress of being in hospital.
