Tickets for the concert will be free and it is expected that over 20,000 will come to see the band, he told a press conference.
The concert is being organised by the city and the MPG Live company. Simple Minds are expected to play their many hits, preceded by Croatia's pop rock band Budjenje. A collection will be held and all the proceeds will go to open a dental medical unit for children and adults with special needs at the Split Hospital.
Krstulovic Opara underscored that the intention of "Znjan for everyone" was for the beach to become a new postcard of Split and a new magnet to develop tourism as well as recreation and sports for local residents too.
Bringing a rock attraction like Simple Minds to Znjan will open the tourism season and attract British tourists as well as rock music fans from all over Europe to come to Split.
"We want to cause the same effect that Ultra (music festival) does during the summer... Ultra's positive marketing effect for Split and Croatia has meant more than 25 million euros in marketing space and that is the direction we want to go in. Starting the rock season on the beach in a tourist town is an excellent advertisement and... we will give Znjan a new life..." he said.
He underscored that the intention was to make Znjan similar to Nice, Rio's Copacabana and Sydney's Bondi Beach because Znjan and Split deserve that.
Joe Basic of MPG Live announced that Simple Minds will bring more than 20 musicians and that front man Jim Kerr's father would be coming to Split where he intends to celebrate his birthday.
Even though the concert is free, some VIP and Golden Circle tickets have been released and so far more than 60% of these have already been sold.
