CERN experts to visit Croatia May 2-4

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak

ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - A five-member team of CERN experts is scheduled to officially visit Croatia on May 2-4, to hold the final round of negotiations on associated membership of the European research organisation that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education said in a press release on Saturday.

According to the press release, the visit by CERN scientists is taking place following the successful visit of a Croatian delegation, led by Science and Education Minister Blazenka Divjak, to Geneva.

The CERN team will focus on the capacities of the Croatian science community.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, was established in 1954. The organisation is based in Geneva and it has 22 member states, with Israel being the only non-European country granted full membership.

In 2016 it had 2,500 scientific, technical, and administrative staff members, and hosted about 12,000 users. In the same year, CERN generated 49 petabytes of data.
