Croatian biologist Iva Tolic awarded by Austrian Academy of Sciences

ZAGREB, March 26 (Hina) - The Austrian Academy of Sciences has awarded Iva Tolic from the Rudjer Boskovic Institute (IRB) with the Ingaz L. Lieben award for 2017 for outstanding achievements in the field of molecular cell biology, especially for work on the microtubule cytoskeleton, IRB said in a press release.

This prestigious award is considered to be Austria's Nobel prize and was granted to Tolic for the results achieved as part of a European Research Centre (ERC) project -  A new class of microtubules in the spindle exerting forces on kinetochores - NewSpindleForce, headed by Tolic which has come up with completely new scientific insights.

The Ignaz Lieben Prize is an annual award  to young scientists working in the fields of molecular biology, chemistry or physics, the press release said.

The Austrian academy also reports on its website that the Croatian biologist received this year’s Ignaz L. Lieben Prize for her outstanding research on cell division.
