Canadian embassy organising events marking International Francophonie Day in Zagreb

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, March 19 (Hina) - On the occasion of International Francophonie Day, observed on 20 March, Canadian musician Joseph Edgar will hold a concert in the Croatian Musicians' Club – Sax  in Zagreb on Tuesday, the Canadian embassy in the Croatian capital stated in a press release on Monday.

International Francophonie Day is observed within the International Organisation of La Francophonie's member-states every 20 March, to celebrate the French language and Francophone culture. There are over 369 million French speakers on the Earth and the observance of that day started 30 years ago.

The Canadian musician's concert will be a central point of the events being held from 1 to 31 March within the celebrations of International Francophonie Day organised by the Embassy of Canada in cooperation with the embassies of Belgium, France, Greece, Qatar, Hungary, Morocco, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland and by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI).

All the embassy-participants will provide valuable cultural, academic and artistic events. I am happy to see that the central point of those events will be the concert by the Francophonie Canadian rock band in Zagreb, Canadian Ambassador Daniel Maksymiuk says.

This year's theme of International Francophonie Day is about the way common language connects people and encourages them to take action.

The Canadian embassy will continue promoting Francophonie fundamental values, the ambassador said in his message.
