More women than men enrol in doctoral studies in 2016-17 school year

ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - A total of 3,309 students enrolled in doctoral studies in the 2016-17 school year, of whom 54.6% were women, most of the students were aged 25-29 and only 8% were unemployed, Croatia's national statistical office said on Thursday.

Of those students, 63.2% enrolled in doctoral studies at the University of Zagreb, 13.6% at the University of Rijeka, 9.5% at the University of Split, 8.7% at the University of Osijek, 4.7% at the University of Zadar and 0.3% at the University of Pula.

Also, 41.2% of the doctoral students were aged 25-29, 22.4% were aged 30-34 and 1.6% were 55 or older.

Furthermore, 22.8% were studying for a degree in biomedicine and medicine, 22% in social sciences, 18% in technical sciences, 16.4% in natural sciences, 13.5% in humanities, 4.2% in biotechnical sciences, and 3.1% in interdisciplinary sciences.

As for their place of residence, 94.2% of doctoral students lived in Croatia and 5.8% abroad.
