Borzan has been shortlisted as one of the three candidates in the area of women's rights and gender equality.
MEP Borzan is a staunch and successful advocate of women's rights and gender equality in Croatia, Southeast Europe and at EU level. As a doctor, she has competently and tirelessly advocated the women's right to sexual and reproductive health, the jury which shortlisted Borzan says in the Parliament Magazine, also citing Borzan's achievements on the Gender Equality Committee.
Borzan was a rapporteur on industrial safety and on the European strategy for persons with disabilities. She is known for her work in the prevention of violence against women and girls and insists on the ratification of the Istanbul convention.
She was also a rapporteur on European funds for work-life balance and is known for her work regarding relations with third countries, according to the jury.
Borzan was nominated by as many as 29 women's rights and gender equality organisations, primarily from Croatia but also from neighbouring countries, as well as by European organisations.
