"Croatia ranks second with the highest scores, just behind Italy, while Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik and Zagreb are among the top 20 most awarded cities in the world," Booking.com said.
Annual awards are granted based on user experience and reviews by guests from the world over who made their bookings via the website and stayed in the accommodation. In 2017 there were 140 million reviews and based on them almost 500,000 accommodation facilities were awarded.
Apart from being ranked second with the highest scores, Croatia ranked sixth for the number of awards received.
Almost 25,000 premises were given an average score of 9 while 243 premises were given a 10. Split ranked in 2nd place, just behind Rome, while Zadar and Dubrovnik were ranked 9th and 10th respectively. Zagreb ranked 19th.
Booking.com said that in order to be awarded, premises have to be given a score of at least 8 based on at least five guest reviews before the end of October. Scores are given for cleanliness, comfort, location, content, personnel and value for money and reviews are never edited which means they represent authentic impressions by guests.
