eVisitor system wins UNWTO prize for tourism innovation and technology

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - The Croatian eVisitor system, which registers visitor arrivals and departures, has won the third prize of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in the category of tourism innovation and technology, and the award was presented to Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) director Kristjan Stanicic at a ceremony held in Madrid on Wednesday.

This week Madrid is hosting Spain's most important international tourism fair, FITUR, in which Croatia is traditionally presenting its tourism industry.

Since it is based in the Spanish capital, the UN agency for tourism presents its annual awards at the fair to projects from around the world.

Stanicic said that the UNWTO award for e-Visitor was yet another important sign of acknowledgement of Croatia's tourism and proof that Croatia was recognised as one of the leading countries in the global tourism industry.

The first prize in the category of tourism innovation and technology went to Spain's SegitTur, a smart tourism system, while the second prize went to the Australian Building Planning and Design Standard.

The UNWTO award ceremony was attended by more than 500 participants from across the globe and 14 awards were presented in four categories.

The eVisitor system was the only Croatian project nominated this year and shortlisted from among close to 130 projects from 55 countries.

The eVisitor system is a national tourist information system put into operation in January 2016. Since ten, it has registered all tourist arrivals and departures. Visitors are registered according to type of accommodation, destination and other parameters.
